Delicious gluten free sausage and chips, the best I've had in a while, shame we live 65 miles away but surely will think of an excuse to visit again! Lovely service, friendly staff! Even gave water to our dog! Thank you :)
This is the local chip shop to my parents. We always come here when visiting. The staff are really friendly. The food always tastes great. The guy who does the cooking of fish etc is really sound. Before they took card we came(without cash) and they let us have food and to drop money off the next day. You wouldn’t get that anywhere else!
Ordered two fish and chips with an extra fish. It took 2 hours to arrive. To make things worse, they forgot the extra fish and still charged us for it. Chips were soggy and didn't get many but the fish was nice but for around £8 each it wasn't value for money.
Excellent Haddock n Chips - busy place - but don't mind wait when food this good
Usually great food but this time fish overcooked . Supposed to homemade onion rings but got cheap shop bought ones .and no mushy peas . Not up to there usuall standard
Just had a deluvery bit of a wait but in fairness was advised at booking. Food was excellent
Bit hit and miss with the quality, plus they cook to order which can take a while. Some people clearly don't get that you shouldn't park a car on a corner of a busy road there will be an accident Some day
Hot crispy fish and great chips. Perfect ????

Quick Facts About The Old Smithy

The Old Smithy place is a local chip shop that has both strengths and weaknesses, as indicated by the comments provided. Despite some mixed feedback, there are several positive aspects that contribute to its overall appeal.
One of the main strengths highlighted by multiple reviewers is the delicious gluten-free sausage and chips. This demonstrates that the establishment caters to customers with dietary restrictions, which is a significant advantage in today's market. Furthermore, the fact that it is considered the best sausage and chips the reviewer has had in a while indicates that the quality of the food is generally high.
The friendly service is also frequently mentioned as a strength. Reviewers appreciate the welcoming attitude and praise the staff for their excellent customer service. Going above and beyond by providing water for customers' dogs is another positive aspect of the service, as it shows a commitment to accommodating all customers and their needs.
There are also instances where the chip shop has demonstrated flexibility and understanding towards customers. Accepting an order without immediate payment and allowing customers to drop off the money the next day is an example of this. This level of trust and understanding is likely to foster loyalty and encourage customers to return.
However, the comments also indicate some weaknesses that need to be addressed. One recurring issue is the long waiting times for food. One customer mentions waiting for two hours for a delivery. Another mentions that the establishment cooks to order, which can take a while. This suggests that the chip shop may struggle with managing customer expectations and providing timely service. Additionally, the prolonged wait for food delivery could inconvenience customers and potentially discourage them from ordering in the future.
There are also complaints regarding the quality of certain items. Some reviewers mention overcooked fish, cheap shop-bought onion rings instead of homemade ones, and missing mushy peas. These incidents suggest a lack of consistency in the preparation of food. Maintaining high food quality and meeting customer expectations should be a priority for any dining establishment.
Feedback regarding parking issues is also mentioned, with a suggestion that the chip shop's location may be problematic. Customers' safety concerns about parking on a busy road should be taken seriously, as accidents could negatively impact the reputation of the business.
Despite these weaknesses, it is noteworthy that customers continue to patronize The Old Smithy place and acknowledge its strengths. The positive reviews regarding the excellent Haddock n Chips and the hot and crispy fish with great chips indicate that the quality of the food, when executed correctly, is highly enjoyable.
In conclusion, The Old Smithy place has its strengths, such as offering delicious gluten-free options, providing friendly service, accommodating special requests, and occasionally delivering excellent food. However, there are areas that need improvement, including reducing waiting times, maintaining consistent food quality, and perhaps addressing parking concerns. By addressing these weaknesses, the chip shop has the potential to further enhance customer satisfaction and increase its overall appeal.
